Why Music Today?

On this day in 1818, George Gounod the composer
was born in Paris.
Using a melody from Bach (1700's), Gounod composed
one of the most beautiful versions of the "Ave Maria."
(Gounod was paying tribute to Bach as "the master of masters.")

An image for "Ave Maria"
taken in the church that
Flannery O'Connor attended.

Also of note: George Gounod at one time thought of
becoming a priest. Later, he wrote what was to
become the amazing music for the Vatican ( Papal) Anthem.

. . . and now thanks to YouTube,
                 you can listen today.
